What Matt does

Six things, done by one person.

Gas, heating, plumbing, bathrooms, tiling and emergencies. No department numbers, no handovers — the engineer who quotes the work is the engineer who does it. Based in Ascot, covering Berkshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Middlesex and West London.

01

Gas repair, servicing & installation

Gas is the part of the job where the qualification actually matters, and it is the core of what Matt does: repairs when an appliance stops behaving, annual servicing to keep it safe and running properly, and full installation when it's time for something new. Both natural gas and LPG are covered, which matters for the properties out past the mains that run on bulk or bottled gas. Matt is Gas Safe registered — ask to see the ID card before work starts, and it'll be handed over without a fuss.

02

Heating installation, fault-finding & repairs

Heating work splits into three jobs and Matt does all three. Installation: a new boiler or a new system, sized for the house rather than for the invoice, with the controls set up and demonstrated before he leaves. Fault-finding: the unglamorous, patient part — radiators cold at the bottom, a system that loses pressure overnight, a boiler locking out on the coldest morning of the year. And repairs: getting it fixed rather than sold a replacement, where a repair is genuinely the right answer.

03

Plumbing

The everyday plumbing every house eventually needs: dripping and seized taps, leaks under floors and behind units, failing toilets and cisterns, tanks and cylinders, waste and supply pipework, and the outside tap that never quite worked. A one-man business means the small jobs get the same attention as the big ones — there's no minimum-value threshold below which you become an inconvenience.

04

Bathroom installation

A full bathroom taken from a stripped room to a finished one. Because Matt tiles as well as plumbs, the whole thing is one job with one person responsible for it, rather than a plumber and a tiler taking turns and blaming each other for the gaps. Strip-out, first-fix pipework, the fitting itself, tiling, sealing and the final connections and tests — then a walk round to check you're happy with every bit of it.

05

Tiling

Tiling is a service in its own right, not just something bolted onto a bathroom. The difference between a good tiled wall and a bad one is almost entirely in the preparation and the set-out: a flat, sound, properly primed background; the layout planned so cuts land where you don't look and full tiles land where you do; the right adhesive for the substrate; and grout and silicone lines that stay straight. Bathrooms, en-suites, cloakrooms, splashbacks and wet areas.

06

Emergency call-outs, 7 days a week

Things break at inconvenient times. Emergency call-outs are available seven days a week for the faults that genuinely can't wait until Tuesday: a burst or leaking pipe you can't get under control, a total loss of heating or hot water in cold weather, a boiler locked out and refusing to reset, a toilet out of action in a one-bathroom house. Before you ring, get the water off at the stopcock if it's a leak — there's a step-by-step checklist on this site for exactly what to do while you wait. If you can smell gas, ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 first, not a plumber.

The full list

Broken down, job by job.

The six headline services cover a lot of ground between them. Here's what that actually means in practice. If your job isn't on the list, ring anyway — it's usually a variation on something that is.

Gas & boilers

The regulated end of the trade, on natural gas and LPG alike — carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer who will show you the card.

  • Gas appliance repair

Faults diagnosed and repaired on domestic gas appliances.

  • Annual gas servicing

Servicing to keep an appliance safe, efficient and running as it should.

  • Gas installation

New domestic gas appliances and pipework installed and commissioned.

  • Natural gas and LPG

Both fuels covered — useful for properties beyond the mains gas network.

  • Boiler replacement

An old or failed boiler swapped for a new one, sized for the house and demonstrated before handover.

Heating & hot water

New systems in, old systems diagnosed and put right — installation, fault-finding and repairs.

  • Heating installation

Full heating systems installed, with controls set up and explained.

  • Heating fault-finding

Cold radiators, pressure loss, lock-outs and intermittent faults traced properly.

  • Heating repairs

Repaired where a repair is the right answer — not replaced by default.

  • Radiators & valves

Radiators and valves fitted, moved and replaced as part of heating work.

  • Hot water problems

No hot water, lukewarm water or poor flow investigated and resolved.

Plumbing & emergencies

All plumbing works, plus emergency call-outs available seven days a week.

  • Leaks & burst pipes

Leaks traced and stopped, damaged pipework cut out and replaced.

  • Taps, showers & toilets

Fittings repaired or replaced — taps, mixers, showers, cisterns and WCs.

  • Tanks & cylinders

Cold water tanks and hot water cylinders repaired or replaced.

  • Pipework alterations

Supply and waste pipework re-run for kitchens, bathrooms and appliances.

  • Emergency call-outs

Available seven days a week for faults that can't wait.

Bathrooms & tiling

A bathroom handled end to end by one person — including the tiling, which is a trade in its own right here.

  • Bathroom installation

Complete bathrooms from strip-out to final connections and testing.

  • En-suites & cloakrooms

Smaller rooms planned so every centimetre earns its place.

  • Wall tiling

Bathroom, en-suite and splashback tiling, set out before the first tile goes on.

  • Floor tiling

Floor tiling laid on a sound, level, properly prepared substrate.

  • Sealing & silicone

Wet-area sealing done so it stays watertight rather than going black in a year.

What you can hold Matt to

Three promises, and no small print.

The man who quotes is the man who does the work

This is a one-man business. Matt Wennington answers the phone, comes out to look at the job, gives you the price and then turns up and does it himself. Nothing gets handed to a subcontractor you've never met, and nothing gets lost between an office and a van.

Gas Safe registered — ask to see the card

Matt is Gas Safe registered, as the signage on the van says. Every gas engineer carries a Gas Safe ID card showing exactly which appliances they're qualified to work on: ask Matt for his before any gas work starts. Any engineer worth using will hand it over without being prompted.

Free quotations, explained in plain English

Quotes are free, and they come with an explanation of what's actually wrong and what the options are — including the cheaper option where one exists. The review that sums it up best is Paul's: "Matt explained everything clearly."

Gas work carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Quotes free. Emergency call-outs seven days a week.

No registration number is published here because it isn't ours to publish — ask Matt to show you his Gas Safe ID card on the doorstep, which is exactly how the register is meant to be used.

Not sure which one you need?

Describe the fault or send a photo. Matt will tell you what's involved, what it's likely to take, and whether it's something you can sort yourself.
